Automatic locking parking brake.
The parking brake is of disk type with an independent circuit from that
of the service stop system. It has an automatic lock feature, the locking
action being hydraulically controlled (commonly known as negative brake).
The traditional handbrake has been replaced by an electro-hydraulic switch
which allows the operator to engage it even with the diesel engine running.
Should the diesel engine not be running the parking brake is still automatically
engaged, so there is no risk of operator oversight or accidental operation,
which disconnects automatically only on subsequent starting.
Automatic operation
The locking system is engaged automatically as soon as the diesel engine
stops.
Total safety
When the vehicle is at a standstill with engine off, the wheels are therefore
always automatically locked.
